Featured Deals of the Quarantine – 5/15/20 –

Hello and welcome back to another Featured Deals of the Week. I’m your host Benajmin F, coming to you live(ish) from the Boston quarantine. Prices are finally starting to return to normal-ish as panic buyers have mostly run out of panic. Plenty of stuff still has a big COVID tax on the sticker price, but we’re finally starting to see some prices return to normal. So here’s to normal, and to some sales.

Benelli NOVA Entry 14″ SBS 12 gauge – $549.99

Image Provided by Benelli LE

What the deal is:

Deep down, I think we all kinda want a short-barreled shotgun. For any number of reasons, they’re cool, they’re practical, they’re just a little bit of a flex, and just like a short-barreled rifle, they’re a great way to dip your toe into the NFA pool. The NOVA Entry was designed as a breaching tool for law enforcement but functions equally well as a home-defense gun. If you’re going to get an SBS, you might as well get one from a top-notch manufacturer like Benelli.

Why it’s a good deal:

Okay, yes, you will have to pay the ATF their $200 tax stamp before all is said and done if you buy this. But, for a pre-tax price of $549.99, this is still a pretty good deal. Retail on a NOVA Entry SBS (if you can find one) hovers a lot closer to $650, saving you half the price of that tax stamp. Not bad.

Sig Sauer CPO P226 9mm – $649.95

What the deal is:

God do I love the P226. I have to admit that I’m a bit of a SIG fanboy, so you know, my excitement over this deal may not be shared by everybody. But come on, you have to admit that the P226 is one sexy pistol. It is just beautiful, and of course, it’s a great shooter as well. Whether you’re looking for a range toy or a duty-sized 9mm, this deal is for you.

Why it’s a good deal:

SIG Sauer Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) handguns have been inspected by the factory and found “free of defects in material, workmanship, and mechanical function”. In other words, there might be some wear on the finish, but it’s 100% safe to shoot and functional. SIG even offers a 1-year warranty. Considering that non-CPO P226s retail for around $850-900 on the low end, this is a pretty good deal on a great handgun.

Yugo M70AB2 Ak-47 underfolder parts kit – $329.99

Image Provided by Palmetto State Armory

What the deal is:

I have to admit to still being a little weirded out by Palmetto getting into the parts kit game, but here they are, with a parts kit for the M70AB2. The M70 is, of course, the Yugoslavian AKM and the AB2 suffix signifies a folding stock. This kit does not include a barrel or receiver. If you’re looking for a project gun, this is for you. If you’re looking for a solid kit to send off to get built by someone reputable, this is for you.

Why it’s a good deal:

Kits like these generally sell for closer to $400, although I have seen some around $380. You will have to shell out for barrel and receiver, and either spend some quality time at your workbench or send it out to be completed. But, if you want a real Yugo M70AB2, this is the place to start.

Walker’s Ear and Eye Protection – 20% Off at Brownells

Image Provided by Brownells

What the deal is:

At the end of the day, protecting your hearing is one of the most critical parts of shooting. Once it’s gone? It’s gone forever. There is no getting it back. Walker’s makes rock-solid hearing protection, ranging from 23dB of noise reduction to 27dB (that I’ve seen). That’s enough to save you from the dread foe tinnitus (which I have), so if you’re bringing someone new shooting, or just in the market for some good ear protection, here you go.
